COMMUNITY
GAMWC participates in the community in a number of ways. We collaborate with other non-profit agencies to assist Nyeland Acres and its residents to improve their quality of life.
SANTA TO THE SEA
Santa to the Sea race begins at the world’s largest Santa statue on Ventura Blvd. in Nyeland Acres. Following the race, toys collected are provided to more than 3,000 needy children. Santa to the Sea has provided more than $350,000 in scholarships to students attending Oxnard College.
"Santa to the Sea was designed to assist the Nyeland Acres community and one aspect is to provide scholarships to help students realize their dreams of a college education."

NYELAND PROMISE
Mike Barber and Mary Anne Rooney founded the Nyeland Promise. The Nyeland Promise received official non-profit status on October 2, 2018 and was envisioned by residents of Nyeland Acres to provide the residents of Nyeland Acres with support, resources, advocacy, encouragement, services and basic needs to transform their lives and families. These goals were inspired by the United Nations Goals for Sustainable Development adopted in 2015 to “Transform our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
The goals will be accomplished by developing programs to close the digital divide to affect generational change, coordinating educational programs for residents, establishing a food pantry, securing safety needs, improving quality of life, creating neighborhood pride, and developing economic growth.
"The Nyeland Promise provides a great service to Nyeland Acres. It is building a sense of community and strengthening the area."
John Zaragoza, Former Ventura County Supervisor
